SABBART-Movie Screening | When Fire Turn to Ash (AT 2025)

The essayistic documentary “When fire turns to Ash” by Michaela Grill (AT 2025) traces the history of “Tierra del Fuego” an archipelago at the southernmost tip of South America. Following its history of colonization up to the present, the film talks about its disappearing cultures, empty landscapes and present struggles. It tries to show how history inscribes itself into landscape and give a sensory form to the invisible.

This film is part of Michaela Grill´s Ecological Grief Series that focuses on different aspects of human interaction with nature in the Anthropocene. Through the series, she investigates environmental melancholy and the loss of places, species, and ecosystems.

يسعدنا دعوتكم لحضور العرض السينمائي الثاني في اطار مهرجان “صبارت” وهو الفيلم الوثائقي ذو الطابع المقالي “عندما تتحول النار الى رماد” للمخرجة ميشائيلا جريل (النمسا ٢٠٢٥ ) و الذي يتتبع تاريخ “تييرا ديل فوجو” وهى مجموعة جزر تقع في أقصى الطرف الجنوبي لأمريكا الجنوبية. و من خلال تتبع تاريخها من زمن الاستعمار و حتى وقتنا هذا يتناول الفيلم اختفاء الحضارات و الفضاءات الطبيعية الخالية و الصراعات الراهنة. يحاول الفيلم اظهار كيف ينقش التاريخ آثاره في المكان و منح الغير مرئي شكلا حسيا ملموسا.
يندرج هذا الفيلم ضمن سلسلة “الحزن البيئي” للمخرجة ميشائيلا جريل و التي تستكشف أوجها متعددة للعلاقة بين الانسان و الطبيعة في عصر الانثروبوسين. و من خلال هذه السلسلة تستقصي المخرجة التدهور البيئي و ما يرافقه من اندثار للأماكن و الأنواع و النظم البيئية.
