Steven Salaita – An Honest Living | Stories from Inside and Out of Academe
This talk will explore the various challenges facing academe today through reference to Salaita’s memoir An Honest Living. Having been fired from a tenured position at the University of Illinois in 2014, Salaita found himself unemployed before eventually taking up work as a school bus driver. After five years away from the classroom, he accepted a job at AUC. He will discuss this unusual journey and highlight the new challenges he encountered upon returning to the field of higher education.
Steven Salaita is professor and chair of English and Comparative Literature at AUC. He has authored numerous books, most recently two novels, “Daughter, Son, Assassin,” and “Jerry and Rodrigo Go to War,” due out next month.
