Coffee Reading – On the Rim of Awareness
Join us for the opening of Coffee Reading – On the Rim of Awareness, a solo exhibition by Cairo-based Polish artist and conservator Izabela Uchman at CRAFTASTIC! art gallery.
Inspired by the tradition of coffee reading, or tasseography, the exhibition explores how we seek meaning in the patterns and circumstances that surround us, connecting the visible with the unseen, and the past with the present and future.

For this project, coffee becomes the artist’s medium. Uchman spontaneously scatters coffee across paper, allowing unexpected patterns and forms to emerge without prior intention. She then approaches these traces much like a coffee reader, observing, imagining, and interpreting the images and stories that take shape through her own perception.
Through these works, Coffee Reading invites us to reflect on how meaning is discovered and perceived through created images, attention, intuition, and personal experience. At the same time, the project speaks to Uchman’s broader interest in cultural heritage, identity, and the ways in which different cultures and traditions can intersect, resonate, and inspire new forms of interpretation.

قارئة الفنجان – على حافة الوعي
انضموا إلينا في افتتاح معرض « قارئة الفنجان – على حافة الوعي»، وهو معرض فردي للفنانة البولندية إيزابيلا أوخمان، الفنانة والمرممة المقيمة في القاهرة، وذلك في جاليري كرافتاستك للفنون.
يستلهم المعرض تقليد قراءة الفنجان، أو علم التافيسجرافيا، ليستكشف الطريقة التي نسعى من خلالها إلى إيجاد المعنى في الأنماط والظروف المحيطة بنا، رابطًا بين المرئي وغير المرئي، وبين الماضي والحاضر والمستقبل.
في هذا المشروع، تصبح القهوة وسيط الفنانة. تنثر أوخمان القهوة عفويًا على الورق، وتتيح للأنماط والأشكال غير المتوقعة أن تظهر دون تخطيط مسبق. ثم تتعامل مع هذه الآثار على نحو يشبه قارئة الفنجان، فتتأملها وتتخيلها وتفسر الصور والحكايات التي تتشكل من خلال رؤيتها الخاصة.
ومن خلال هذه الأعمال، تدعونا « قارئة الفنجان » إلى التأمل في كيفية اكتشاف المعنى وإدراكه من خلال الصور التي يتم خلقها، والانتباه، والحدس، والتجربة الشخصية. وفي الوقت نفسه، يعكس المشروع اهتمام أوخمان الأوسع بالتراث الثقافي والهوية، وبالطرق التي يمكن من خلالها للثقافات والتقاليد المختلفة أن تتقاطع وتتجاوب وتلهم أشكالًا جديدة من التأويل.
