La casa sul Nilo di Denise Pardo
Denise Pardo è nata al Cairo. Vive in Italia dal 1961. È un tempo lungo quello che Denise Pardo racconta in questo romanzo. Un tempo affascinante, cosmopolita, tollerante, ricco di stimoli. Un tempo di amicizie e di comprensione. La narratrice racconta la sua infanzia in una sorta di Eldorado magico: i caffè del Cairo, le feste, gli stimoli, la civiltà della conversazione, i salotti.
E il Cairo di quel tempo, di quei primi anni Cinquanta, è narrato con una precisione e una nitidezza esemplari perché questo romanzo è soprattutto la storia dell’autrice. Finché non sale al potere Nasser, cambiando in pochi anni le regole del gioco, e della convivenza civile. E tutto, dapprima impercettibilmente, e poi con sempre maggiore evidenza, diventa fosco e insidioso.
E gli stranieri, che stranieri non sarebbero, si sentono sempre più in pericolo.
Fino a una partenza precipitosa per Roma e l’Italia, nel 1961. Un abbandono doloroso, straniante, figlio di un mondo cambiato senza una ragione.
Siamo lieti di annunciare un evento speciale, dedicato al libro La casa sul Nilo, in collaborazione con Diwan e Neri Pozza, dedicato alla presentazione del libro di Denise Pardo.
La serata si aprirà con l’introduzione dell’autrice Denise Pardo, insieme a Francesca Lang, editor del volume, che dialogheranno per presentare il libro e introdurre i temi principali dell’opera.

وُلدت دنيز باردو في القاهرة وعاشت في إيطاليا منذ عام 1961. وهي تروي في هذا العمل الروائي حقبة طويلة من الزمن؛ حقبة ساحرة، كوزموبوليتية، متسامحة، وغنية بالإلهام.
تسترجع الكاتبة طفولتها وكأنها في مقاهي القاهرة، الحفلات، الأحاديث، فن الحوار، والصالونات. وتصف القاهرة في تلك الفترة، أي أوائل الخمسينيات، بدقة ووضوح مثاليين، لأن هذا الرواية، قبل كل شيء، هي قصة الكاتبة نفسها.
إلى أن يصل جمال عبد الناصر إلى السلطة، فيغيّر خلال بضع سنوات قواعد اللعبة والتعايش المدني. يبدأ كل شيء بالتغير تدريجيًا ثم يتجه إلى التهديد والظلمة بشكل متزايد.
ويبدأ “الأجانب”، الذين لم يشعروا يومًا بأنهم غرباء، في فقدان شعورهم بالأمان.حتى الرحيل المفاجئ إلى روما وإيطاليا عام 1961.
وداع مؤلم ومربك، نابع من عالم تغيّر بدون سبب.

Denise Pardo was born in Cairo and has lived in Italy since 1961. It is a long era that Denise Pardo recounts in this novel. An era that is fascinating, cosmopolitan, tolerant, full of inspiration. A time of friendships and mutual understanding.
The narrator recalls her childhood in a kind of magical Eldorado: Cairo’s cafés, parties, stimuli, the art of conversation, the salons. And the Cairo of that period, those early 1950s, is described with exemplary clarity and precision, because this novel is, above all, the author’s own story.
Until Nasser comes to power, changing within a few years the rules of the game, and of civil coexistence. Everything, at first imperceptibly, and then ever more noticeably, turns dark and threatening.
And the foreigners, who never really felt like foreigners, begin to feel increasingly unsafe.
Until a sudden departure for Rome and Italy in 1961. A painful, disorienting farewell, born from a world that had changed without reason.

The evening will open with a conversation between author Denise Pardo and Francesca Lang, the book’s editor, who will together introduce the work and guide the audience through its key themes.
