Walking Tour: Forgotten Heritage in the “City of the Dead”
A walking tour of unknown funerary architecture.
Led by architect and conservation expert Jarosław Dobrowolski, the tour is based on more than three years of research carried out by the ARCHiNOS Architecture team under his leadership. It focuses on usually unknown post-mediaeval funerary architecture in the Eastern Necropolis part of the of the “City of the Dead” in Cairo. The merit of the little-known structures are both their often high artistic qualities and the history they bear witness to.

Organised by MASQ (Multicultural and Artistic Spaces at Qaitbey’s) and ARCHiNOS Architecture, this walking tour is part of a multifaceted project carried out by ARCHiNOS and the Sultan Foundation. The “Forgotten Heritage” documentation and research project was initially funded by ARCADIA, and is currently supported by Gerta Henkel Foundation.
