A performance by Ossama Helmy “Oz Oz” (Egypt)
Echo is a multimedia performance in which the artist and collector Ossama Helmy–Oz Oz weaves together a diverse sound archive from old home recordings and music to fragments of spoken stories. On stage, Oz Oz takes on the role of a DJ, but instead of mixing tracks, he blends his personal narratives with voice messages from a husband to his deceased wife, recorded on 1970s reel-to-reel tapes. He interweaves feelings, thoughts, sounds, and effects, crafting a new sonic narrative with analog audio devices, building an entirely new sound tape and manually creating sound effects, rather than relying on musical instruments or digital production tools. In this performance, Oz Oz questions the metaphorical meanings of sound effects — such as Echo, Delay, Reverb, Looper, distortion, and the speed or slowness of the tape — through a journey that also explores his relationship with death and loss.

Theater Is A Must Festival tenth edition “Return” 6-17 November 2026
This is the tenth edition of the Theater Is A Must Festival under the theme “Return”. We revisit concepts, art forms, influential moments in our contemporary political and social history, and myths. Through our artistic choices, we will create a dramaturgical line of concepts and issues that we would like our contemporary theater to address in the 21st century. Through Egyptian, Arab and European contemporary theater performances, we will organize a contemporary theatrical experience that includes the desire to return, pause and reflect on defining moments, pausing to deconstruct these contexts through theater that questions the past and engages with our recent history. We celebrate atypical and non-traditional theatrical forms and continue to imagine our vision of a theater that transcends pity, fear and catharsis.

هو عرض أدائي متعدد الوسائط ينسج فيه الفنان والمقتني أسامة حلمي – ؤزؤز أرشيفاً صوتياً متنوعاً من تسجيلات منزلية قديمة وموسيقى إلى شظايا من الحكايات المنطوقة. يتخذ ؤزؤز على المسرح دور الـ DJ، ولكن بدلاً من دمج المقطوعات الموسيقية، يقوم بدمج سردياته الشخصية مع رسائل صوتية من زوج إلى زوجته المتوفاة، مسجلة على شرائط Reel to Reel تعود إلى سبعينيات القرن الماضي. وهو يدمج المشاعر والأفكار والأصوات والمؤثرات، صانعاً حكاية صوتية جديدة باستخدام أجهزة صوت تناظرية، ومُشكلاً شريطاً صوتياً جديداً بالكامل ومُنتجاً المؤثرات الصوتية يدوياً، بدلاً من الاعتماد على الآلات الموسيقية أو أدوات الإنتاج الرقمي. في هذا العرض، يُسائل ؤزؤز المعاني المجازية للمؤثرات الصوتية — مثل الصدى، التأخير ، التردد ، التكرار، التشويش ، وسرعة أو بطء الشريط — من خلال رحلة تستكشف أيضاً علاقته بالموت والفقد.

هذه النسخة هي العاشرة من مهرجان لازم مسرح تحت عنوان عودة. نعود لزيارة مفاهيم وأشكال فنية ولحظات مؤثرة في تاريخنا السياسي والاجتماعي المعاصر وأساطير. من خلال اختياراتنا الفنية سوف نصنع خطأ دراماتورجيا للمفاهيم والقضايا التي نرغب أن يعالجها مسرحنا المعاصر في القرن ٢١. نحاول أن نعود لأدوار وتساؤلات المسرح الأولى وأثره في حياة الناس، من خلال عروض مسرحية مصرية وعربية وأوروبية سوف ننظم تجربة تلقي مسرحي معاصرة تنطوي على الرغبة في العودة و التوقف والتأمل في أوقات فارقة، نتوقف لنفكك هذه السياقات من خلال مسرح يطرح الأسئلة على الماضي ويشتبك مع تاريخنا القريب. نحتفي بالأشكال المسرحية غير النمطية وغير التقليدية ونستمر في رسم رؤيتنا لمسرح يتجاوز مشاعر الشفقة والخوف والتطهر.
